Depression and fatigue among Egyptian health care workers: cross-sectional survey

Abstract Aim In recent years, the mental health requirements of healthcare professionals have drawn attention as a significant public issue and danger to provision high-quality care. Healthcare workers are subjected multiple stressors at work, which may negatively affect their physical, mental, emotional health. This study aims assess prevalence depression fatigue among Egyptian (HCWs) factors associated with fatigue. Subject methods cross-sectional survey used Google Form build online questionnaires, including sociodemographic data, 10-question assessment scale, scale (PHQ-9 questionnaire). The was conducted post-COVID-19 from November 28, 2022, January 2023. Results involved 1511 HCWs mean age 37.4±7.7 years (range 26-71 years); 73% were female. Physicians constituted 77.8% participants. Mild found in 26.1% participants, 26.8% reported moderate, 43.1% had severe depressive symptoms. Fatigue symptoms encountered 88.7%. independent affecting female gender, single, living rural area, having chronic disease, working > 8 h/day, being hospital worker, studying for postgraduate degrees. Age 35 or younger, postgraduates independently Conclusion Depression highly prevalent workers. Many related need be considered enhance well-being HCWs.
